Biological Safety Officer Training
Date: Tuesday 27 - Wednesday 28 April 2010

ERBI is an Accreditied Provider in the Biosafety Practitioner Level 1 (Foundation) Course

Course aim:
To improve participant's knowledge of Biological Safety and therefore develop their competency and confidence to perform the role of Biological Safety Officer more effectively. The course is predominantly aimed at those fairly new to the
role or who have not had formal training.

Course Outline Day 1:
  • Legislation and role of the BSO

  • Risk assessment (ACDP and cell cultures)

  • Genetically Modified Organisms

  • Site inspections and risk assessment exercises.

  • Provisional arrangements have been made for an HSE inspector from the Biological Agents Unit to attend.

    Course Outline Day 2:
  • Laboratory design and containment, waste disposal, transportation

  • Implications of specialist work (animal work, Bio-security, HTA, radiation)

  • Laboratory management (including training/competence, spills, record keeping)

  • Course assessment
