Organisation

The EESCN Board of Directors is responsible for directing the network's strategic purpose as well as overseeing its operation and performance.

The EESCN Board of Directors are:

Dr Mary Archer (Chair), Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Dr Mary Archer taught chemistry in the University of Cambridge for ten years before developing a wider portfolio of interests. She became a non-executive director of Addenbrooke's NHS Trust in 1993, vice chairman of the Trust in 1999 and chairman in 2002. Mary was a member of the steering group for the recent national Action on Urology programme, and chairs the ongoing Urology Informed Decision-Making Project for the group. She also chairs the East of England Stem Cell Network and is a trustee of the UK Stem Cell Foundation.

 

Dr Cathy Prescott, Biolatris Ltd

Dr. Cathy Prescott has over 20 years experience within the life sciences sector. She attained her DPhil at Oxford University before going on to hold a number of Research Fellowships including at Brown University, the Max Planck Institute and Max Delbruck Centrum. She spent over 6 years as a director for Avlar BioVentures Ltd, specialising in the investment and development of early-stage biotech companies. She has also held senior management positions in public and private healthcare companies. Cathy has accumulated experience in assessing technology, commercial and strategic corporate development, raising venture funds and private investment. She
is currently the founder and director of the consulting company Biolatris Ltd., director and co-founder
of Aclar Ltd, advisor to the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation and DRW Ltd.

Dr Megan Davies, Medical Research Council

Dr Megan Davies is Head of the MRC Centre in Cambridge.

 

Julian Hitchcock, Mills and Reeve

Julian Hitchcock is a Senior Solicitor at Mills & Reeve, where he specialises in intellectual property and life sciences. Julian qualified in a leading IP practice following an education in medicine and a career as a BBC science producer. He has conducted patent litigation on behalf of leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies, working in the UK and Australia, and advises research institutions, key NHS organisations and companies (large and small) on a range of subject matter that includes stem cells, gene therapy, cellular medicine, novel genetic technologies, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and the supply and use of human tissue. Julian Hitchcock regularly speaks and writes on the exploitation and enforcement of IP in the bioscience, pharmaceutical and health care sectors.

   

The EESCN Steering Group is responsible for providing strategic advice and guidance to the Board of Directors in relation to EESCN’s activities and outputs.
